Summer and Linen Layers

If you know me, you know that I love layers. And it pains me that Nashville summers are so hot and humid that I don't always get to wear them. Even in all of the heat (wherever you live), I do believe that there are ways in which you can layer and still stay cool. Because let's be honest - not every day calls for shorts and a t-shirt.

For some reason, I have been working towards a monochromatic theme this summer - in particular, black and white. I am finding that the simplicity of black and white is not only enjoyable but a challenge. A few summers ago I decided to go completely denim-less. I wanted to challenge myself and the way that I thought about presenting myself to others. It was difficult at first, mostly because of my laziness, but it worked it out in the end and forced me to push the boundaries of my creativity. So in short, white and black will be my go-to's this season. They may not always be worn together, but you'll likely see my in one or the other.

I have always been a fan of white denim. I have also always been a fan of wearing it outside of the traditional window for wear. I actually purchased these a few years ago from the Gap and I have loved them ever since. I have been fortunate enough to be able to keep them clean (perhaps that's another post or discussion), and they have seen me through.

Another staple in my wardrobe are solid crewneck t-shirts. I purchased this one from Banana Republic and though I don't always shop there, I will say that I really do like this item. 100% Supima Cotton and it hasn't shrunk or changed colors on me after a few washes (small victories win the war)!

I paired it with a cotton-linen unstructured and unlined garment-dyed blazer from J.Crew. When I saw this piece, I fell in love because black linen isn't very common and the slightly wider lapel was different from what J.Crew had done in the recent years. I really enjoy jackets such as these because they bring a sense of polish that I particularly enjoy for my body. With this one, in particular, I decided to go for a bit of a larger fit. I wanted loose and breathable layers and the summer months give license to do so in my opinion. Also, one of my new favorite pieces is my pocket square is a special project by One Feather Press.

Lastly, a LONG TIME summer staple of mine have been Chuck Taylors. After years of wanting to upgrade to Comme de Garçons, I did and I couldn't be happier. Though they are not totally white, the cream brings a bit of differentiation and perhaps makes others take a second look at what you're doing.

Take a look below and let me know what you think. Would you rock this? What other layering pieces do you like to wear in the summer months?
