Rest. Reset. Release.
It’s so easy to get wrapped up in the day’s tasks and rituals. Every now and then you need to unplug and reset. Important decisions, deadlines, current events, and life happenings can all weigh you down. But I am a firm believer in taking time for yourself. It is impossible to pour into someone or something if you're empty. Take time to refill - even if for a small amount of time.
And a small amount of time is what I got here! I had a few minutes to myself in the midst of a youth trip that I chaperoned with my church. Panama City Beach was the location and since I don't get to the beach often, I had to take a few moments to myself. A friend of mine encouraged me to find a few minutes on the beach and that's what I did during the conference's personal quiet time. I watched the waves, spent time with the Creator, prayed, and was present in the moment. It was beautiful.
In this effort, I have dubbed this my "Summer Relaxation Kit." These items were perfect for the beach but can be used most anywhere. The beauty of "Summer Relaxation Kits" is that they're completely customizable and you probably don't have to make any major purposes. Find what works best for you and roll with it. My kit includes:
A Good Book. This is a great way to bring things back into perspective and to re-ground in the midst of confusion. Right now, Jon Acuff’s ‘Do Over’ is doing just that for me; challenging me and changing my perspective.
Great Tunes. “Music soothes the savage beast” is an understatement in my eyes and I can always count on my Bose wireless speakers to come in handy. They connect quickly to your Bluetooth device, have a great battery life and even better sound. Find you favorite genres and go to town! EJ the DJ is what they call me. (Speakers are not always appropriate, so I do also employ headphones from time to time)
Summer Prints. I love (bright) prints, so when I saw this Ralph Lauren towel, I had to have it. I am learning to swim this summer (more on that later), and this has come in handy more than once.
Comfortable Summer Footwear. I don’t like wearing socks in the summer months, and southern heat can get the best of you -- but these Birkenstock sandals have been a lifesaver. They’re stylish enough to wear everyday, but also reasonable for the pool and the beach. Guys, I know many of you are afraid of sandals and even going sockless, but trust me, it’s always a good option.
A Keep-All. This LLBean tote is amazing. Sturdy, spacious, and smartly-stylish. I can literally put everything I need for the day in here for quick access. I have been using their products since high school and have yet to be disappointed. And I can never resist a well-done monogram. (It also hid my beach snacks quite well).
A Good Journal. I have been journaling for years and I absolutely love it. Quite often, by the time I am finished spewing my thoughts on paper, I have worked out my own problems or sorted through my thoughts quite well. There is nothing like getting out of your own head. (Not pictured because it rarely leaves my home)
Rest your body. Reset you mind. Release baggage. It’s important.
